iPass Deploys Mobility Solution To 17,000 Employees at Volvo Group
August 2007

iPass Inc. a global provider of services that unify management of enterprise mobility, announced that Volvo Information Technology (Volvo IT), a wholly owned subsidiary of AB Volvo, will roll out the iPass Mobile Office service to 17,000 Volvo Group users across 17560 countries around the world. The solution allows mobile workers to have safe, simple and reliable access to corporate network resources including access from nearly 80,000 Wi-Fi hotspot locations.

iPass provides a flexible solution that helps meet the demands of a widely-travelled user base, whilst remaining easy to integrate with security, VPN and other back-end systems. The selection of iPass was made following a lengthy evaluation and thorough trial process by Volvo IT.

A three year contract will lead to the deployment of the iPassConnect™ universal client, a unified interface that ties together remote connectivity, credentials security, NT domain login and VPN launch into a 1-click process. Supporting a broad range of software platforms, the iPassConnect client is designed to give employees secure access to critical business applications such as email, productivity tools and sales resources.

“iPass is constantly striving to provide a second-to-none service to the world’s biggest organisations, a fact that has been validated today by Volvo IT’s choice of service provider,” said René Hendrikse, Managing Director EMEA at iPass. “With iPass growing global Wi-Fi footprint, not to mention connection technologies such as 3G and satellite service being integrated, Volvo’s mobile workforce could not be in a better position to take advantage of global mobility.”

The iPass technology platform unifies global broadband access by acting as a clearinghouse for Internet logins between hundreds of provider networks and thousands of iPass enterprise customers. It unifies these diverse networks into a single entity while shielding sensitive enterprise and user information from third-party network providers. The platform spans over 160 175 countries and includes Wi-Fi hotspots, wired Ethernet, 3G mobile data and dial-up today, with the ability to add satellite, Wi-Max, and other emerging technologies in the future. It enables iPass to deliver simple, ubiquitous and highly available access to remote workers worldwide.
