Switzerland’s Largest Independent Telecommunications Provider Selects Arbor Networks
July 2007

Arbor Networks, a provider of core-to-core network security and operational performance for global business networks, announced that sunrise, Switzerland’s largest independent telecommunications provider, has deployed the entire suite of Arbor Peakflow SP products for improved network security, traffic engineering and managed security services. Through its deployment of the Peakflow SP platform, sunrise becomes the first Switzerland-based telecommunications carrier to offer value-added managed DDoS protection to its enterprise customers, ensuring that they will receive clean bandwidth that is free of flooding denial of service (DoS) attacks, worm traffic and infected hosts.

Arbor Peakflow SP currently protects more than 70% of the world’s Internet service provider (ISP) networks from security threats, such as distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, botnets and worms, as well as network issues such as traffic and routing instability. The Peakflow SP platform builds on Arbor’s years of experience helping ISPs deliver managed security services. Traditionally deployed for in-cloud DDoS detection and mitigation services, this integrated suite of products enables sunrise to cost-effectively offer customer-edge DDoS and MPLS VPN managed services to their enterprise customers.

“We evaluated a number of products but only Arbor’s was able to provide us with a comprehensive solution that met all of our evaluation criteria,” said Urs Reutimann, project manager with sunrise. “Arbor’s Peakflow SP enables us to secure the network, improve traffic engineering and offer managed DDoS protection, all on a platform that is easy to use and assimilate into our back office systems.”

The Peakflow SP platform includes a Flow Sensor device that provides cost-effective visibility and security across the whole internet backbone of an ISP or carrier in a single console, improving security at the customer edge and enabling more intelligent traffic engineering decisions. sunrise has also deployed Arbor’s Threat Management System (TMS) device which provides carrier-class, deep packet inspection, enabling sunrise to quickly and intelligently mitigate security threats. The Peakflow SP platform is unique in its ability to detect, analyze and mitigate threats across entire ISP networks, a combination that delivers significant operational savings to sunrise through the consolidation of multiple tools and operations systems.

sunrise is rolling out their managed DDoS protection offering via the Arbor Peakflow SP portal, which greatly reduces the stress on network operations staff for sunrise and their enterprise customers. For sunrise, this eliminates the need for integration into proprietary systems and enables the rapid deployment of new, revenue generating managed services. For enterprise customers, they benefit from a single point of access to all of the components of the Peakflow SP platform. Through a single, secure sign-on, enterprises can mitigate threats and clean traffic via Arbor’s TMS device, improve security and traffic engineering via Peakflow SP and Flow Sensor.
