Jazztel Strengthens the Security of its Enterprise Customers With Fortinet Systems
July 2007

Fortinet announced that Jazztel, a leading telecommunications and data transmission carrier in Spain, has implemented Fortinet’s FortiGateâ„¢-5000 Series carrier-class security systems to provide firewall protection and traffic shaping to its enterprise customers in Spain. A provider of broadband solutions for voice, data and Internet traffic, Jazztel offers an innovative communication service, called I2P. I2P is Jazztel’s latest generation of private IP data network services and provides its enterprise customers with reliable data transmission among all their offices. To secure this service, Jazztel was using a firewall solution that soon became limited in terms of performance, flexibility and scalability.

After evaluating various security solutions, Jazztel chose Fortinet’s integrated network security platform and implemented the company’s carrier-class FortiGate-5050 systems to help secure its I2P service with firewall and optimize network bandwidth with traffic shaping. Fortinet’s FortiGate-5000 chassis-based systems provide high performance with modules that can be clustered to provide any desired level of redundancy. FortiGate-5050 systems also provide Jazztel with multiple virtual domains to isolate the security services provided to each customer and separate the management of these virtual services - all from one hardware platform. As a result, Jazztel is able to easily and securely manage each customer environment as a single entity.

"Fortinet’s FortiGate-5000 Series products are true carrier-class security systems and perfectly meet our network security requirements," said Antonio Hernandez, core engineering manager at Jazztel. "Not only can Fortinet’s systems scale as our customer base grows, but they also give us the flexibility to add security services over time, as our needs expand."

In a second phase, Jazztel plans to provide additional security services to its customers and intends to use the FortiGate systems to deliver a comprehensive security suite that includes antivirus, anti-spam, IDS/IPS, Web content filtering, peer-to-peer (P2P) and instant messaging application security, as well as IPSec and SSL virtual private networking (VPNs).

FortiGate-5000 chassis-based security systems are the industry’s first security solutions to comply with the Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (ATCA) standard for next generation of carrier grade communications equipment. Mobile operators, telecommunication carriers, service providers and large enterprise customers can configure FortiGate-5000 systems in a variety of ways to offer unmatched performance, reliability, scalability and security.
